A Very Raucous Caucus (and...)

Note: Please read to the end of this post for some exciting news!

Sam was witness to his first caucus today-- and a very raucous caucus it was! This was quite an exciting moment for Washington State, which rarely has a significant voice in the primary process. Sam obliged his enthusiastic parents by tagging along at our local elementary school, even though it was CLEARLY nap time. The place was absolutely packed, and people had lots to say. One of the photos below shows Sam in the hallway with some of our neighborhood friends who had also grown a bit weary of our precinct's debate. Sam actually lasted for over an hour before *politely requesting* that dad take him home.

After the caucus had ended, and Sam finally woke up from his nap, mom and dad tried to make sure Sam was clear on where we stood, politically speaking, as we watched the results. But while this household is firmly in the Obama camp, we've already got our eyes on a future election: Feldman 2048. Sounds good, doesn't it?

Finally, while we are thrilled at the results of today's caucus, and thoroughly enjoyed the process, there is some other very significant news to report from Babyland: Sam took his first two independent steps today! We were talking to some neighbors and noticed that he was standing without any support. We all got excited about this, and then he took two very proud steps before lunging towards the nearest lap! He repeated this maneuver a few minutes later, and got mildly freaked out by all the clapping and cheering. We'll have our video camera on alert in the coming days to try to catch some of this. ***Go Sam! Go Dems! What a day!!!***

Oh how wonderful! His first steps! And his first Caucus for a great candidate. Sam is clearly stepping out in the right direction! The election is so, so important, but second to Sam's first steps! But...now that I think about it, I can't help but wonder..Do you think maybe he was literally MOVED by Senator Obama's inspiring messages? Whatever...Way to go Sam! (and Barack!)

GO OBAMA!!! And go Parlin Feldmans for engaging so actively in democracy!!

How symbolic and fitting that Sam stood on his own two feet the same day that Washington decided it was ready to build a new world with Obama. That's a mythic beginning to your journey, dear Sam...
