The three of us recently spent a few days in D.C. followed by a two week trip up at Silver Bay for Sam and Mommy. Not everything went according to plan (Aunt Nicole and Uncle Ben couldn't be with us for much of the trip *sniff* and an unnamed new puppy made for a favorite-shoe-eating, ankle-biting addition) but we had a great time and made lots of memories. Here are a few:
#1: Argh! The pictures are on Keith's work computer, so we'll have to wait on those, but we got to visit with our precious new nephew/cousin, Jonah and his awesome parents. Sam correctly observed that babies that young don't do much more than poop, pee, drink milk and sleep, but Aunt Amy and Uncle Keith LOVED holding him, watching his amazing hands and seeing Ben and Kate occupy their new role. The highlight for all was certainly the turtle-powered stroller ride that Uncle Ben orchestrated for Sam.
#2: We had a wonderful visit with the Bruskin fam, although Sam was pretty grumpy during the kids playtime portion of our time together. This picture kind of sums up the energy he was sending off vis-a-vis little Abbles ("This is mine, and I'm not planning on letting you in on the action!"). Luckily, Mimi babysat so the parents could all get together after hours. Yay for great friends! And hopefully we'll have more time together in the near future so Sam can show his better self ;)
#3: While the whole Saul clan was up at the Bay, we had a wonderful time just hanging out together. Sam became very comfortable with his Aunt and Uncle and was giving leg-hugs and requested special time with them.
#4: We had a memorable trip to the Addison County Fair that included LOTS of farm equipment, a tractor pull and a Ferris Wheel. Here's a picture of Sam and Grampa with one of the many tractors, and a shot in which Jamie shows off his fair prizes while Sam appears to be channeling Stevie Wonder.
#5: There were a few wonderful boat/island picnics, the best of which included swimming off the rocks and blueberry picking on Odell Island (wherein Mimi patiently watched as Sam attempted to find and eat every single berry on the island, and managed to take some great pictures!).
#6: Poppy sang in a wonderful concert of the Mozart Singers and both Sam and Jamie watched with reverence and rapt attention from the balcony. All three grownups present were blown away and I count that as the highlight of our trip.
#7: Finally, Sam learned and grew so much during this trip and made some wonderful, lasting memories with family. Here are a few additional photos. Thank you, Mimi and Grampa in particular, for everything you did to make this trip as happy as it was :)
Discussing the New York Times cover photo with Poppy
Watering the dock. Somebody had to do it.
Being a "ballerina" while the party boat was motoring along-- not sure why this became Sam's go-to boat pose, but we all got a good chuckle out of it.
An unexpected peace offering that Sam laid out for his puppy nemesis while Scruffy was sleeping.

I can almost feel the sun on my shoulders, taste the blueberries, and hear Poppy sing. Thank you for bringing us closer to your summer at the Bay.
Oh...I loved your summary...what a full, full time we had! So many happy memories! I will send you and Keith and Ben and Nicole my photos once I remember how to download then send them on to you! Love, and best wishes for Keith's first official week as Professor Feldman at Berkeley!
Oh yay! Love all the photos. We had such an amazing time with you all too, and if Sam was slightly grumpy we wouldn't have ever guessed- Abby and co found him utterly wonderful! So glad you had fun family times and hope you're getting settled in in the new home. Much love!
