A Couple of Crazy Weeks

Life around these parts has gotten very busy.

Milo took his first independent steps - up to a count of five now, but crawling is still far and away the preferred mode of ambulation. Milo is also screeching his way through the day, and all of us would love nothing more than to for him to be telling us in words what he would like. He is approximating words for dog, Sam, Mom, Dad, again and balloon, but that only gets you so far.

Sam is doing wonderfully at school and his alter ego, Toe-Claws, appears to be the ring-leader of some serious crime-fighting at recess most days. We really are so happy to see his social skills blossoming and witness him becoming increasingly confident with his peers.

Mom has started to do a little consulting with some local preschools and is enjoying trying on a (very part-time) new role in addition to full time parent. She's also working on her Spanish -- ole!

Keith has been busy teaching, writing and advising and is soon heading off for his third out-of-town conference this fall. He also turned 34 (woo-hoo!), although had to spend his birthday giving a talk in Baltimore. We did our best to make up for it a week later though, with a family shin-dig that culminated in all four of us eating a delicious fruit tart on our front steps, taking in the lovely weather and our awesome neighborhood.

We mention that, because it feels worthwhile to remind ourselves of all the nice aspects of living here, given that a week of earthquakes (many while Keith was gone-- ugh!) has us a little...well...rattled. Part of the deal, we know, but not a fun experience.

Now we're gearing up for Halloween, so stay tuned for some pictures and hopefully a video too.
