B is for Bibliophile

Sam's love of books is nothing new, but a recent discovery made it seem like a worthy post topic.

At home, we spend so much time reading that both mom and dad must admit to having uttered a phrase we can't be proud of: "No more reading, Sam, please!". When he's just hanging out and relaxed at home, Sam happily identifies all of his letters, can now "read" his name and has memorized entire passages from many of his favorite books...all super cool things to witness and all very much self-driven. But what really surprised us was the recent discovery that he knows who has written many of the books in our current rotation. We typically include the title and author of each book as a part of the reading process, but have never emphasized the writer's name, so we were very shocked when he started pulling out library books we had recently checked out and telling us the authors' first and last names. "Mommy, who wrote dis book? Holly Kellah (Holly Keller)! Dis is Wobet Cows (Robert Krause)!", etc. Dude.

Kids are such sponges at this age. It is totally amazing and remarkable and really unbelievable to see how much and how quickly they learn. What a treat to get to see what catches Sam's interest!
