New Experiences, New Words

We've started to keep track of Sam's vocabulary.  According to the experts, "first words" are produced spontaneously by the child, are applied to the same object across settings, and parents (or others in the know) understand what's being said without pointing or gestures. Sam's eclipsed the two dozen mark, with more every week.  Some of the classics include Mama, Gaka (that's me, Daddy), mi-uh (for milk), buh-ke (that's book), aye (for egg), ba-ke-ba (basketball, of course).  There's also uck (duck) and ca (car). Bah-pah means backpack and ahh-ahh-ahh-ahh!  is either policecar, ambulance, or firetruck (it sounds like a siren, get it?).  The neighbors' dogs are oof-oofs while Guinny the pooch is "Gwuh". Guh-guh-guh?  That's a train-- a choo-choo train, in fact. Okay, so the parent's special magic decoder ring comes in handy at times!

The newest word is "bubbles," as the video below demonstrates.  A quick preface is in order prior to viewing: This is the very first tolerated bubble bath; prior attempts were met with utter panic as Mimi witnessed.  The other thing is this: towards the end of the clip Sam demonstrates a habit he discovered on his own months ago and his 'rents can't help but encourage.  It's just too cute.  Stay clean, all!

I think everyone should have their own Z to put on their heads whenever they need to feel better! I loved seeing our Sam in the tub with the bubbles...I have wonderful memories of Nicole and Amy with bubble beards and hats! Also, Keith, your spelling of Sam's words was great...a real challenge. I miss you all, but am so glad that you are all so happy. Love, Mimi
